The 3x1 format became a thing when I was doing the mirror project. I was trying to duplicate the long skinny mirror I was photographing Ano in. I kinda fell in love with the format and have combined it with Faces or... and a few other themes. Mostly portraits…
The underprint was a selfie taken by the subject and then emailed to me.
In the beginning I had made the eyes very blue and simple (like earlier works in the series). I decided to back them up a bit and make them slightly more realistic... Spent a lot of time on the teeth, lips, and the neck. I was stunned by the photo that acts as an underprint to this piece. The photo was taken after the end of a 6-month ordeal. She was happy at this point. Still, the trauma left traces.
Multimedia piece on cradled wood by Ampersand 18x6x2." Micron Pens, Posca Pens, Liquitex Acrylics. 2 coats Liquitex Gloss Varnish for the final coat. All wonderfully archival.
